The Cult of the Body

Sculptor Czeslaw (Victor Varconi) is looking for a model for his new work ‘New Venus’. He meets the beautiful Hanka (Agnes Petersen), who seems to be the perfect model. Soon the two fall in love with each other, but it is revealed that Hanka is the fiancée of Czeslaw's friend Baron Stumberg (Frederick Delius).

The second film by Michał Waszyński, creator of the legendary  The Dybbuk , is an adaptation of the erotic and psychological novel by Mieczyslaw Srokowski.  This Polish-Austrian co-production, realised, among others, in Warsaw, Budapest and Vienna, received international acclaim, winning  Gold Medal at the Nice Film Festival . The film was found in the Royal Film Archive in Brussels.

  • The film was shot in Warsaw (Poland), Vienna (Austria), Budapest (Hungary) and Nice (France).
  • The film was soundtracked only for the European market because there was no sound equipment in cinemas in Poland yet.
